Ride Section - Team Jares - Railroad Pass to Cold Springs
FROM: Petra Keller

Getting to the ride section in time is always such a guess… it is at least a 3hr haul to the Cold Springs where the team was meeting. You check on status before you go to bed, you check again over night and then again as you wake up. You want to make sure you are at your location in plenty of time! I call it the Pony Time YoYo. Overall the mail had been running behind schedule for a few days, but Nevada teams were known to make up, Continue Reading
Meeting members and riders at exchange.

From West Virginia, I was encouraged to submit a report as a welcoming person at the exchange for the riders. A little background first. My first encounter with the annual Pony Express Re-ride was at Old Sacramento in 2007. While touring CA. I had stopped at the Visitor’s Center for literature, after handing me the information the lady said “by the way the Pony Express will arrive at 10:45”. I waited for the riders and learned about the Re-ride, met many friendly NPEA (National Pony Express Association) members and decided, Continue Reading

Some pictures from my exchanges as a ham radio operator. Ambush pass, green valley center, hazel fish hatchery, and i80. Also attended the finish. Little did I know there was a letter in there from my Mom to me! As a ham I look forward to this all year.

Pony Express: we had something different this year at Martins Cove which is a retreat destination for the Morman faith with a huge amount of history behind it regarding Brigham Young and their western movement into Utah. Anyway, Paula and I were waiting in the dark for our rider to arrive when all of a sudden walking up the road towards us were some 30 to 40 people with lanterns. It was midnight. They were staying in the campground and had stayed up to meet us and watch the exchange., Continue Reading

This was the last picture I took of our ride last night 6/18/19. This was the final mile of our section (Railroad Pass to Cold Springs Station, NV). That is my brother, Alex Jares on his horse Jet leading Breezy with our grandfather’s saddle. This was our tribute to our grandfather who passed away shortly after last year’s re-ride. We delivered the mail to our dad to finish the ride/section. Our grandpa was the Ride Captain of this section until his son (our dad Doug) took it over. This was, Continue Reading

Cousins Ride for Utah!
FROM: Beverley Heffernan

Attached is a photo of myself on the left and my cousin Françoise Crispin from Houston. Photo taken at Simpson Springs while waiting for the Pony. We were two of the 9 adventurous riders of Utah’s Team 2 that got the mail from Simpson Springs to Ibapah. No photos of us riding because it was generally dark! I was proud to be a part of a small but intrepid team that worked together to get the job done. The remote west desert of Utah is always fun to ride, it, Continue Reading
