Buffalo Soldiers greet Pony Express

The Buffalo Soldiers greeted the final Pony Express riders following a 1667 mile mail delivery from Sacramento, California to St. Joseph, Missouri. A thousand letters were delivered to the Patee House pony express station on the 40th anniversary of this historic reride. Last leg of the Kansas ride. Started the ride way behind schedule and hotter than H. Will finish up just a few minutes behind schedule, raining and 75 degrees. Good ride!!!!
PE Re-Ride Cozad to Overton

Due to heat & humidity the mail was late getting to Cozad. PE riders had time to visit & reconnect with each other. Then as Team Captain Mitch Ziebell swears us in, the full moon created a special moment s you look around and see your friends faces highlighted! Then Dee & Breyer start us off, running past a skunk in the ditch in the first mile. Shoestring lights on the back of their trailer worked as their guide. Hot and Humid, But the Mail Must Go Through!

The Keith County, Nebraska, Riders received the mochila from the Colorado Riders just south of Big Springs at about 8:00am MDT Thursday. Weather was the word of the day…….hot and HUMID! It played havoc with the horses, as they simply ran out of gas as the day went on. Temps started out hot and just got hotter, with the “feels like” temp much, much higher that the actual temp.
