Utah team 3 was a little short handed, but everyone stepped up and we held our own, delivering the mochila at Simpson Springs right close to 9:30 P.M., just about an hour late. Can’t say enough thanks to Western Wyoming and Utah Team 1 for making up the hours. We had great weather, and a sunset as beautiful as anything the earth has to offer. Gregg Hearty carried the mochila for about 3/4 mile bareback, and Trever Carpenter was clocked as high as 35 mph. Otherwise, pretty smooth sailing. We broke in a couple of new riders, Mason Bates and Steve Huffman. Thanks and welcome to both.

Media Team note: We asked for a photo for the bareback event and received the following from Pat

“Petra, it was so spur-of-the-moment that we didn’t think to take a picture.  The horse with the mail was giving out fast, and the exchange not yet in sight.  Gregg dumped a horse out in a hurry, jumped on bareback, and we folded the mochila and laid it across the withers in front of him.  He galloped away, and did fine until Sonny jumped a ditch.  Gregg lost his seat at that point, but recovered in a bounce without losing the mail, and rode on to where the next rider waited.  ”
