The annual Pony Express Re-Ride is scheduled to pass through Sweetwater County this coming Monday. The first Pony Express rider retracing the original Pony Express route is expected to leave Sacramento, California, today, heading east. The last scheduled rider will arrive in St. Joseph, Missouri, on Saturday, June 21.

This Monday, Re-Riders will be stopping to change riders and horses in Granger sometime in the mid-afternoon. Granger was one of 157 relay stations during the Pony Express’ operational days between April 1860 and October 1861. During that period, lone riders, working both ways in relays, carried mail nearly 2,000 miles in an average of 10 days across Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada to California.
