ST. JOSEPH, Mo.— The annual Pony Express Re-Ride is set to depart June 15, on its nearly 2,000-mile journey in honor of one of the most iconic chapters in American history.
The Re-Ride begins at the Patee House Museum, now a National Historic Landmark, was originally the headquarters of the Central Overland California & Pikes Peak Express Co and a hotel.
Gary Chilcote, a history preserver with the museum, told the News-Press that the ride will be similar to year’s past with someone reading the speech given 160 years ago by Major M. Jeff Thompson.
