(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The Pony Express Re-Ride arrived in town this weekend, completing its annual journey from San Francisco, California to St. Joseph, Missouri.

The event marks the 165th recreation of the historic mail delivery route that connected the East and West.

Each year, the National Pony Express Association recreates this iconic journey with riders traversing different western routes.

Families and community members gathered to celebrate the arrival, interacting with the horses, riders, and viewing samples of the transported mail.

“I think this is my 25th year doing it, and now my kids are getting involved,” said Penny Orrick, a Pony Express re-rider. “We’re keeping the Pony Express alive. If we weren’t doing this, I don’t know how much my own children would even know about the Pony Express. The fact that we’re able to do it, you know, it’s just keeping that history alive.”

The ride concluded at St. Joseph’s Patee House Museum, which originally served as the hotel where riders would rest after completing their journey before beginning the route again.

The museum now stands as a testament to this important chapter in American communication history.
