Successful Pony Express Re-Ride Through Nebraska Panhandle Wednesday
The Pony Express Mail Service galloped through the Panhandle once again this week, as dozens of volunteers helped with the annual re-ride of the original route from the 1860’s
Yesterday afternoon, a group of riders covered a 56 mile stretch that began around 2:30 p.m. at the Nebraska/ Wyoming state line in Lyman.
Trail Captain Max Cawiezel tells KNEB News just like the original Pony Express, mother nature can affect the timeliness of the mail. Fortunately this year, it was nothing but blue skies and sunshine.
The cavalry embarked towards Scotts Bluff National Monument, arriving shortly before 5:30 p.m. for a meet-and-greet with visitors.
The riders will be travelling east for the next few days until they arrive in Saint Joseph Missouri on Saturday if everything goes according to schedule.
