Last Saturday, Dec. 6, a local tradition rode once again. The Gothenburg Pony Express Re-ride held their annual Christmas Card Ride, offering citizens a chance to send their greetings by horse. The group collected cards and letters until Dec. 5, and then packed the mail into their leather mochila to make the ride Saturday morning.

Kathy Stevens and Terry Grasz were the lone members making the 11-mile trip from Gothenburg to Cozad, making the ride a close recollection of the group’s. Stevens covered four miles of the trip, and Grasz rode seven. The Christmas Re-Ride is an unofficial re-enactment that the local group participates in, with the official national re-ride celebrating the short-lived Pony Express mail service spanning from California to Missouri every year in June.
