Featured stops include Horton, the Seneca Pony Express Museum, the Marysville Pony Express Museum and Barn and Hollenberg Pony Express Station State Historic Site near Hanover.
Kansas route highlights:
• St. Joseph, Mo., bridge, Elwood — Monday, June 15, about 3:30 p.m. The Kansas Division receives the mochila from the Missouri Division.
• Horton — June 15, about 8:45 p.m.
• Seneca Pony Express Museum — Tuesday, June 16, about 2:30 a.m.
• Marysville Pony Express Museum and Barn — June 16 about 9:15 a.m. Known as the Black Squirrel City and home to the Pony Express Barn and Museum, Marysville was a critical hub for the original Express. Riders are often greeted here by spectators, historians and local dignitaries.
The museum offers exhibits, photos and artifacts for those eager to connect with the past.
• Hollenberg Pony Express Station State Historic Site (near Hanover) — Tuesday, June 16 about 11:30 a.m.
Now a state historic site, Hollenberg offers a rich glimpse into the daily life of frontier riders and is a celebrated location along the reride route.
• Nebraska-Kansas state line — Tuesday, June 16 about 12:30 p.m. On June 16, the Kansas Division of the National Pony Express Association will hand off the mochila at the state line — a symbolic connection between neighboring states on the original Pony Express Trail.
