FORT LARAMIE – A historic postal tradition will make its annual return Dec. 6 when the Pony Express carries Christmas cards and letters across southeastern Wyoming.

The service will transport mail from the Fort Laramie Post Office to the Guernsey Post Office, with collection boxes available at post offices in Torrington, Lingle, Fort Laramie, Hartville, Guernsey and Wheatland.

All items must be deposited by 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5. Participants should ensure proper U.S. postage is affixed to their mail.

Each card and letter will receive a special “carried Horseback” stamp by the Pony Express, creating a unique holiday keepsake for recipients.

The event continues a tradition of commemorating the original Pony Express mail service, which operated from 1860 to 1861 and passed through Wyoming Territory. The modern Christmas ride allows residents to connect with frontier history while delivering seasonal greetings.
