(ST. JOSEPH, Mo) The Pony Express Museum hosts their day camp, which teaches children about life in the 1860s.
The children participated in activities like arts and crafts, a school day in the 1860s, and a petting zoo with animals from Orrick Acres.
Executive Director and Camp Director of the Pony Express Museum, Cindy Daffron, wants children to be able to use their creative side and have a chance to be themselves.
“A lot of times, what we find is it’s called, Hurry up and get this done. And it’s, you know, taught differently. So what we try to do here is let them experience who they are. Let them go get glue on their fingers, cut with scissors, take a piece of material, and make their quilt. So part of it is letting that creativity that doesn’t get to happen in other places,” Daffron said.
Daffron said around 87 children took part in the Pony Express Day Camp this week, allowing them to live and learn what life was like in the 1860s.
