The late Carol Anderson was remembered and honored during this year’s Pony Express Association Re-ride when it passed through Oak Friday. Carol purchased her first horse shortly after her marriage to Jerry Anderson in 1962 and participated in her first Re-ride experience in that same year. She began again in 1990 and continued yearly until her death in February of this year at the age of 82. The Anderson family lived near Deshler but have had strong ties to the Oak and Nora communities

Carrie (Anderson) Grimes considered it only fitting to follow her mother’s tradition to again be the first rider out of Oak as her mother had done each year during the re-ride. Carrie is pictured on her horse and also leads her mother’s horse, Bella, as they rode east from Oak along the Oregon Trail and Pony Express route. Empty boots on Bella are in memory of Carol.
