Casper, Wyo. – The Pony Express Association keeps our history alive by riding through the United States carrying mail one again.
With a leather mochila, different horses, and plenty of riders, the National Pony Express Association (NPEA) volunteers to keep America’s history alive. Each June, the non-profit historical organization commemorates the Pony Express with a ten-day, day and night, annual re-ride through the original pony express trail.
The organization’s purpose is to preserve and honor the tough riders from the past that delivered mail through the Pony Express National Historic Trail. Riders from all walks of life, a part of the NPEA collect real letters people have written. Rider, Jackie Breed, explains, “In this bag, called a mochila, there’s actual real mail,” Breed continues, “Every bag is full and this one weighs about 50 pounds.”
