Pony Express: Special Delivery Letters & Kisses for our Veterans

FROM: Petra Keller & Siena
November 4th, 2019 PDT

Woof! My name is Siena and I am a spunky 2-year-old heeler mix. Oh myyyy, the adventures I have had with my mom Petra! I enjoy going on trails rides where I get to run alongside and this past summer, I even got to come along on the Pony Express Re-ride! I sure loved helping “Uncle Red” (mom’s horse) who was carrying the Mochila (the special leather saddle pouch) which had lots of letters in it. Thankfully I didn’t have to carry it – it was heavier than I am., Continue Reading

Our Adventure Accompanying and Photographing the 2019 Pony Express Re-Ride from St. Joseph to Sacramento

FROM: Sally and David Gray
July 22nd, 2019 PDT

Many of you will remember David hanging out our car’s passenger window with a camera while Sally drove alongside the riders.  Our adventure had its beginnings in 2009 when Sally had a particularly troublesome cancer. She read about a geocaching challenge to find certain Pony Express related geocaches in each of the states through which the original riders carried the mail.  She read several books from our library detailing the history and locations of the trail and the stations. She could not rise to the challenge then, but she followed, Continue Reading

Re-ride 2019, Part 1

FROM: Petra Keller
June 15th, 2019 PDT

Where do I start! What an experience to get to see the start of the Re-Ride in St. Joseph and help document and live report along the way! I flew out on Sunday to Kansas City and made my way to Arleta’s to stay in Marysville! Flying into Kansas City I saw how much water was overflowing the Missouri. How awful for all those affected by the floods. We (Arleta, Alicia and I) leave early Monday morning to head to St. Joseph. The departure ceremonies do not start until 2:30, Continue Reading

Presidents report from St. Joseph, MO to Sacramento, CA

FROM: Dean Atkin National Pony Express President Re-Ride News Letter 2017
July 4th, 2017 PDT

Just like the sound of the horse hoofs beat falls silent in the fall of 1861, the last dispatched mail delivered and the horses and men disbanded onto greatness, so it is the same of the 2017 Pony Express Re-ride. Unlike the last ride in 1861, the mochila left St.  Joseph, Missouri with over 1000 letters, on their way to locations all over the world.  Leaving St. Jo with a shout instead of a cannon shot, it left at 3:00 PM, June 5, 2017, headed for Sacramento. The temperature reaching, Continue Reading
