We have plenty of time leaving Cold Springs Station to get the final leg of Section 7. I wasn’t scheduled to get the mail till about 11pm and it was only 330pm. I did have to make the tough decision to back out of an earlier section in 7 because my boys needed a good rest. Did I mention we were short A LOT of riders this year? Since we still had lots of daylight left, I took Kaity to where she needed to pick me up from at Grubb’s, Continue Reading

It’s darn near 1am and we are finally bedding down for some semblance of sleep across HWY 50 from Sand Mountain. Kaity pitches a tent outside and I make a bed in the backseat of the truck. The boys are saddle-free and tied to the trailer eating away. I set the alarm for 3:30 so I can check the Pinger and website to see when the pony might be here. We are scheduled to get it at 6:30am. I barely sleep due to the random texts that are coming in, Continue Reading

Kaity and I make it to 2nd & Curry in Carson City and offload Apache. We have about 10 minutes to chitchat with the crowd when I hear “Rider Coming!” Holy Moly already?? After quickly relaying my route to the 4 police motorcycle escorts, the mochila is loaded, I’m saddled, and we are off! We take off down E Musser and head towards Mills Park. AHHH grass to run on! Apache picks up a canter, we interrupt a soccer game, and head to the eastbound side of HWY 50. It’s, Continue Reading

It’s finally here! After a chaotic morning of last-minute prep and wondering whether or not I was going to run out of gas in my SxS as I did the 6-mile roundtrip to the mailbox to pick up the ride pins, Kaity shows up, we load the ponies and head to Woodfords Station for the CA to NV Handoff and start of Section 1. We get there just after 11am and most everyone is there getting ready-go team! We learn CA is about 20 minutes behind schedule-not too shabby as, Continue Reading

Rarely do we get the mail EARLY!!    But, we did this year.    Every year is different, doing this Re-Ride!    Just like in 1860, you have to expect the unexpected! We received the mochila south of Big Springs, NE, from the Colorado Riders, did the exchange, and left at 3:33 am MDT, 2.5 hours ahead of schedule.   The night was a bit sticky, not too cool, with a hint of a north breeze.   As we progressed, it cooled a bit and the breeze freshened.   We witnessed a glorious, Continue Reading

Hello Nevada Pony Express Fans, On behalf of the Nevada Division Board, we would like to extend our thanks for being part of our historical organization, both in-person and virtually. Nevada has officially finished its duty in getting the mochilla across our state. Our pony riders rose to the occasion during record heat and with far fewer than the normal amount of riders needed. Most of our rider pairs rode multiple legs in their section, while many others went on to do multiple legs in multiple sections, day and night., Continue Reading

I believe that when the riders crossed under the overpass of I25 (North of Casper) they were at the very northernmost part of the re-ride trail. Also, at midnight last night they were at the highest elevation of the trail. The highest elevation of the original trail is between Rock Creek and Strawberry Creek. (South and East of Atlantic City).

We got to meet a pony and rider today at Green River. My daughter Anibel is a horse lover and was so exited to see this event happen while we were on our trip west today. Thank you so much for letting her be a part of this momentous occasion  by petting the horse (sorry but we forgot the name she called him Spirit). If you could send us back that information that would be great. I have included a picture and you guys are welcome to post our story and, Continue Reading
