Kaity and I make it to 2nd & Curry in Carson City and offload Apache. We have about 10 minutes to chitchat with the crowd when I hear “Rider Coming!” Holy Moly already?? It’s finally here! After a chaotic morning of last-minute prep and wondering whether or not I was going to run out of gas in my SxS as I did the 6-mile roundtrip to the mailbox to pick up the ride pins, Kaity shows up, we load the ponies and head to Woodfords Station for the CA to NV Handoff and start of Section 1. Rarely do we get the mail EARLY!! But, we did this year. Every year is different, doing this Re-Ride! Just like in 1860, you have to expect the unexpected! We received the mochila south of Big Springs, NE, from the Colorado Riders, did the exchange, and left at 3:33 am MDT, 2.5 hours ahead of schedule. Hello Nevada Pony Express Fans, On behalf of the Nevada Division Board, we would like to extend our thanks for being part of our historical organization, both in-person and virtually. Nevada has officially finished its duty in getting the mochilla across our state. Our pony riders rose to the occasion during record heat and with far fewer than the normal amount of riders needed. I believe that when the riders crossed under the overpass of I25 (North of Casper) they were at the very northernmost part of the re-ride trail. Also, at midnight last night they were at the highest elevation of the trail. The highest elevation of the original trail is between Rock Creek and Strawberry Creek. (South and East of Atlantic City).
We got to meet a pony and rider today at Green River.

From Utah Team 2 -- Murray Park to Wyoming

Hello from Team 2! We had a great night-time ride from Murray Park (about 4500 S State Street, Salt Lake City) to the Wyoming border. The mail came in an hour and a half late (1030 pm) but was passed off to Wyoming on time (630 am). It was one of the smoothest rides I’ve seen, with everyone working together. Got to offer a heartfelt and well deserved thanks to the riders, horses, and support group from Utah Team 3. Through much confusion, ride schedule mix-ups, midday temps above 100 F, and despite missing a handful of our best riders, this group came through. We needed every horse and rider to make it, but everyone stepped up and worked through the problems to finish our run to Simpson Springs. And you ought to see the girl who drives our pilot car.
