The first ride of the year went off without a hitch. I was escorted in by our color guard, Cindy, Susan and Billy carried the flags with pride. My wonder mare Bonita, who has carried me on 14 of the last 16 years, pranced in with great form. I was sworn in, the mochilla was placed by Jim, I mounted up and was ready to ride. With only a minute to wait Bonita spun to face the route headed east and we were off. Crowds cheered as we departed. The first ride is a short 1.5 mile run, so in short order we were at the exchange and passed off to Crystal… first of 3 rides done our pony got a splurpy bucket and short rest before we head to Placerville for a midnight ride and then further up for a 3 ride at 9am tomorrow
