Here is a heads-up from local gadabout Vicki Hargrove about an event you won’t want to miss. Step back in time and witness part of the Pony Express Re-ride. This year’s re-ride starts June 5 in St. Joseph, Mo. and ends June 15 in Sacramento, Calif. The pony should be coming through our area on June 14. It is scheduled to leave Carson City at 12:30 p.m. and arrive at Stateline around 5:30 p.m. by way of Genoa and Old Kingsbury Road. Delays are common, so all times are estimates. A good place to watch the exchange of ponies and the handoff of the mochila is in Genoa (usually inside the Mormon Station stockade). Genoa is known to be a booming stop, often with live music, animated conversation and great photo opportunities. Let’s hope for good weather after the extremely high winds the rider endured last year during his night ride from Placerville. The support team was snowed on while camping in Hope Valley.
