The National Pony Express Association (NPEA) is excited to help the Reno Rodeo celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Reno Rodeo! In 2019 the NPEA will participate in the Rodeo. The 2019 Reno Rodeo starts June 20th and goes through June 29th, 2019.

We will be collecting letters for the event that will go to Veterans. These letters will be carried in by the Pony Express Riders and delivered to the Nevada Veterans Coalition. Please help get us provide lots of letters to our veterans.

The Pony Express will deliver Letters for the Veterans during the Reno Rodeo on Patriot Night. Let’s encourage folks to mail letters for this event. Please note, these letters will be mailed directly to the Reno Rodeo and not carried in the annual Re-Ride.

  • Friday, June 21 – Patriot Night in the Main Arena
    • During the evening performance the Pony Express riders will do a mochila exchange demonstration and present the Nevada Veterans Coalition with “Pony Express Letters for the Veterans”
      • Riders & Mounts (2-4) for the Mochila Exchange

  • Saturday, June 22nd – Parade through Reno
    • The Pony Express will participate in the annual Rodeo Parade.
      • Riders & Mounts (10) to carry flags on Parade Route

  • Sunday, June 23rd – 9AM – 1PM Kids Day at the Livestock Center.
    • We will setup a Pony Express Station for kids to dress up as a Pony Express Rider and have their photo taken. This is a non-horse event where we get to talk about the Pony Express.  This is our chance to engage with future Pony Riders.

Participation Requirements

We have a limited amount of stalls available Fri – Mon, please let us know if you need a stall. No Admission fee for riders & ground crew for the Friday PM performance.

Q: Where can my horse overnight during the event?
A: We have a limited number of stalls available at the Rodeo grounds. Send us your participation forms and indicate that you are needing a stall.
Q: Where can I camp?
A: There is camping available at the Grand Sierra ( and other area camp grounds (Washoe Lake State Park or Davis Creek Park are options).
Q: Where can I leave my horse trailer?
A: We will have trailer parking on the grounds for the participants and the names have been provided to the Rodeo Committee.
Q: What are the area Feed Stores to provide feed?
A: There are several feed stores in the area.
Q: When is the Parade and where do we meet?
A: The Parade starts at 10AM. Details on where to meet will be determined closer to the parade date. Route information –
Q: What time are we scheduled for on Patriot Night?
A: The Rodeo event starts at 7:00PM. Please be on the grounds by 6PM.
Q: Do I have to participate in all 3 days at the Rodeo?
A: No – you can choose which days you would like to participate.
